Manual Therapy
Manual therapy is a hands-on assessment and treatment technique used to treat joint dysfunction. This technique involves moving the affected joints in specific directions at various speeds and amplitudes. Physiotherapists are trained in these skilled hand movements intended to effect range of motion and function of the joint complex.
Dry Needling
Trigger point dry needling is a procedure used in physiotherapy practice aimed at treating myofascial pain and trigger points. This technique specifically targets myofascial trigger points that can cause local or referred pain, and alter muscle function. This procedure involves a fine needle (similar to acupuncture needles) being inserted into the target muscle to be treated. It is often used in conjunction with a small amount of electric current to mechanically stimulate the muscle creating a local twitch response which helps cause the muscle to relax and reset.
Exercise Prescription
Rehabilitation is an active process by which your body recovers from injury. The human body is a complex machine that has the ability to adapt in response to various forces applied to it. Performing specific exercises can help take advantage of this natural response. Physiotherapists possess extensive exercise knowledge to prescribe you with an exercise program aimed at assisting with your recovery and compliment other treatment techniques.
FMS
The Functional Movement Screen (FMS), is a series of seven different movements used to assess biomechanical function.
Electrotherapy
Electrotherapy encompasses a group of treatment techniques that involve the use of electric current to stimulate the body’s sensory system and aid in pain management. Included in this group of therapies is: Interferential Current (IFC), Trancutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS), Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES), and Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS).
Ultrasound
Therapeutic ultrasound is a treatment that involves the production and transmission of sounds waves to the targeted tissue. A water soluble gel is used with the sound head of the machine as a coupling medium for optimal transmission.
